REVIEW OF STRUCK BY JENNIFER BOSWORTH.
'My name is Mia Price and I am a lightning addict'
Just from those words I knew this would be a book I would love. And after devouring the pages. I was right. I am not saying this is the best book ever written. I has its flaws and I will touch on a few of those in this review.
So here is the gist of the story. Mia Price is addicted to lightning. Ever since she was first struck she craves the lightning. She seeks it and the energy and power it gives her. So when something bad and I mean bad happens, to crub her addiction Mia and her family moves to Los Angeles were there is sunshine and very little to no lightning storms. But nothing ever goes the way we want. Los Angeles is devasted by a massive earthquake and Mia moms almost dies after being trapped under rubbles for days. Los Angeles is a wreck and the City of Angels become the City of Tents. And this man who calls himself the Prophet predicted the earthquake a short time before it hit. So now a lot of people are following the Prophet and his message of a more devasteing storm and only his Followers will survive.
And yes there is a love interest and his name is Jeremy and he is a big mystery. And there is two cult and they both want Mia because they know what she can do. And they believe she is the key doomsday. We just don't know who to trust.
MY LIKES:
Jennifer Bosworths writing is easy to read and not overly detailed and descriptive. She paints a picture with simple directive words and you see it easily with your minds eye.
I love the orginality of the story. No werewolf. No vampire. Thank God.
The idea of the two cults. There isn't much information about them but I understood the cause and the need for both and why they wanted Mia.
Mia is a strong character. Sarcastic and sassy. She had a tough girl persona but she still just a girl taking care of her mom and looking out for her brother.
Katarina is another one of favorite characters.
Prophet is an interesting character. He shows how easily people can be pulled into the of one madmans beliefs.
MY DISLIKES:
The love story. It felt a bit forced and rushed. Of course the story takes place in a span of mere days. But still the development wasn't as natural as i hoped it would. But it didn't stop me from diving into this book.
At times there were certains that i felt didn't quite and did nothing for the story.
Mia's brother needs a good smack on the head.
STRUCK is good as stand alone novel. But there is so much more to explore. I hope there is a second book.
MY TOTAL RATINGS FOR THIS BOOK
4points out of 5 points.
Read it!!!
